Smashing Rocks
Not sure how today is going for you guys, but I've had a ripper day smashing rocks (sorry neighbours)
I have now got 3 beautiful ochres ready to go and some charcoal for one of my current artworks.
This has been on my list of things to do for years,to create Ochre and paint with it- so I'm feeling awesome!
Traditionally Ochre was used for ceremony as well as artworks. Rocks and pigments were traded all over the country and different colours and markings signify different things to different mobs.
I got to use modern tools and a binding agent.
My ancestors would have used a grounding stone and animal fat, animal blood or tree sap as a binding agent. During ceremony it's the elders that paint the younger generations. I haven't had the privilege of being painted up yet, but once I have the opportunity to go to my grandmothers Country with my Aunties I hope I can. It's such a beautiful way to celebrate culture.
I've also just discovered on my mums side of the family, my great grandfather was a teacher!! Seems the passion is continuing on from that side too.
I have such a happy heart right now!
