Shadow Weaver

A$1,200.00

Learning to weave has been a gift I will treasure forever, years ago I was introduced to weaving by two wonder women, descendants of Aunty Connie Hart. When they shared the stitch they also shared that Aunty Connie had needed to learn how to weave in secret, hiding in a darkened room sneaking glimpses of her elders weaving. At the time those Aboriginal women were forbidden to practice any part of our culture, so they did in secret, with curtains drawn. Aunty Connie would watch the women and sneak in to add stitches when they elders had a break. How lucky we are that ‘naughty Connie’ did… as her legacy continues to have created women who now don’t need to weave in the shadows anymore. Women like me who proudly weave and share my skill with others, in turn keeping Culture alive.
